Exeter Victorian British Rifle Regiment Officer's Swordimage AC27 1

Sales enquiries

Etched at the ricasso "J Beer High Street Exeter"; J Beer was a Naval and Military Tailors and Breeches Maker (succeeded by Seymour Brothers). There is no "volunteer" to the etching, so this likely was the sword of a regular rifle regiment (or rifles section of an infantry regiment).

The 32 inch blade is in exceptionally good condition with just a couple of small splashes of patina, the etching very nice and in good condition. Blade firm in the hilt. The steel hilt with some more frequent patina spots is in good condition. The fishskin grip and associated grip wire bindings are very good. The browned (chemically camouflaged) steel scabbard is very good, but with some rust patches. The sword sheathes and draws very well.

What a lovely sword. A great buy, just £? (too late, now sold) . Please quote item reference AC27 (0031). Further / full sized images available upon request.
