Mid 19C Scots Guards Fusiliers Officer's
Sword, for sale
In sound but aged and worn condition, a super rare Mid 19C Scots
Guards Fusiliers officer's sword.
A rare circa 1846-1854 acanthus hilted Scottish infantry field
officer's sword, but uncommonly with the regimental badge of the
Scots Guards (then Scots Guards Fusiliers). It is quite possible
the pipeback blade was originally in another earlier sword but for
whatever reason, the officer wanted to keep it over the new (1845)
fullered blade, as the earliest documented record for this hilt
type for Scottish infantry officers is 1846. In any event, it is
a very, very rare sword.
The 32 1/8 inch period sharpened blade with some sign of use to
the cutting edge, firm in the hilt. The hilt overall good but with
rust spots. The grip has lost most of its fishskin, the twisted
grip wire bindings are complete.
Sure, the sword is aged and not in the best condition, but just
try finding another, anywhere. Yours for £700. Please quote
item reference AC02. Further / full sized images available upon
request. Box 0178-1m (1.541).
