Victorian British Military Train Officer's
Sword, For Sale
In very good condition for its age, a rare Victorian British Military
Train Officer's Sword.
A very rare sword indeed. Etched "Military Train" who
operated under that name between 1856 and 1870 (originally called
the "Royal Waggoners" then "Royal Wagon Corps",
then "Royal Wagon
Train"; absorbed into the Army Service Corps after 1870. This
sword is etched to retailer Simmons, Hemmins Row, London.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition, some patina of
course, the etching still crisp and clear, and firm in the hilt.
The period browned (chemically browned for camouflage) hilt / guard
and scabbard are all good. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire
bindings all sound. The sword sheathes and draws well enough, is
a little loosely at first (tightens nicely when nearly fully sheathed).
A very good condition example of a very rare sword. Well priced
at only £650. Please quote item reference AB76. Further /
full sized photos available upon request. Box 0127-1.18 (2.231)
