1786 Pattern British Infantry Officer's Spadroon,
King's Cutler (sold) |
Made by Cullum, King George 3rd's sword cutler, a good 1786 British
infantry officer's spadroon and original scabbard.
This sword was clearly for an active duty officer with its strengthened
ivory grip and period sharpened 32 inch blade, still clearly etched,
some bluing remaining. Marked to maker "Cullum, King's Cutler,
Charing Cross", dating it from 1786 to 1789.
The blade is still firm in the hilt, the hilt with some gilt remaining;
small Tudor roses for England to both sides of the quillon a lovely
touch. The ivory grip with brass central strengthening bar is in
very good order. The leather and brass fittings scabbard very aged
of course but it is great to have it; these are so rare on these
swords as most perish. Further pictures available upon request.
