1800's Trafalgar Era British Naval Cutlass
(sold) |
An exceptionally rare early 1800's British seaman's naval cutlass,
Battle of Trafalgar Era.

Exceptionally rare authentic (guaranteed) very early 1800's British
naval cutlass. You may see a number of reproductions around but
very rarely do you actually come across an authentic 1800 cutlass
like this.
These items had a long and arduous service life; as far as I am
concerned / aware, there is no such thing as a "very good condition
authentic 1800's cutlass"; if you find one that is in good
condition or better, it is almost guaranteed to be a reproduction.
Basically sound, the 24 inch blade is not untypical for this pattern
/ model. The blade has been narrowed for the last 40%; this is either
to convert it to a more effective thrusting weapon or, more likely,
because of combat damage to the blade, to keep the cutlass in service.
Who knows, this cutlass could well have been at the Battle of Trafalgar.
While I have it, this cutlass will take a prominent place in my
display case, that is for sure. Further / full sized pictures available
upon request. My item reference number is 482.
