Sold Item Notice

Initialed “RWS” with family crest / motto “Carid Nam Fecham” (Love for those close?) English Infantry Officer Sword, Wilkinson made with serial number 10164 on spine. I have tracked this sword on the Wilkinson ledger and it was sold on the 20th January 1860 to Hunter and Guthrie (Tailors and Sword Cutlers of 12 Cork Street, Bond Street, London) for their client "Smith"; so the owner was almost certainly one First Lieutenant Robert William Smith who made officer rank on the 9th December 1859. RW Smith served with the Bengal Artillery which was merged into the Royal Artillery under their new name the "Royal Horse Artillery" in 1862. The sword is in very good condition, as is the scabbard but for one dent. The 82.5 cm blade is firm in the hilt which has very good condition fishskin. Further pictures available upon request.
