A sometimes forgotten period (late 18C) in history when Britain and France had several battles against each other, and this sabre looks like it participated (there are several aged / period nicks to the cutting edge), both on the continent and in Ireland where France supported the United Irishmen when this sword pattern was still in use, though being replaced by the new 1796P. Although this pattern of sword does crop up now and again, it is very rare indeed to find one with its original scabbard.

Marked to British maker "Woolley" on the spine, the perhaps zealously cleaned blade is 83 cm in length and firm in the hilt. The hilt is good though aged, the original grip with wear. The steel scabbard is sound, but has some holes towards the chape one side. The sword sheathes and draws well.

Due to the scarcity of this item, the price of £1000 is investment indeed. Please quote item reference 122. Further pictures available upon request. Box 62-1m (2.347).
